Hey You!

Yeah, I’m talking to you.
The one with the greying hair and the attitude.
Is this how you thought it would be,
Or did you think you would die young?

If you’re like me, you are the same inside.
The same as when people thought you were sexy
Sought your opinion, your company.
Little do they know – we’re even better now.

We’re braver, more productive
We stand up for ourselves and others.
It seems we found our voices
just as everyone looked away.

As the world seems bent on destruction
Savagery clothed in righteousness.
We must try to hold back the tide
Without losing ourselves in the darkness.

Remember there is birdsong in the garden
sun-warmed fur waiting to be touched.
A tangerine sky at dawn, and
Children giggling – like music!

And just because the world is disappointing
doesn’t mean our lives have to be.
Go travel, learn to paint, write stories.
Sing Handel’s Messiah with 500 strangers

We only have one ‘wild and precious life’
Who we are,
And what we do
Still matters. I see you.
